John Adams
John is a professional member of the National Association of Musical Instrument Repairers – and prides himself on providing a top quality instrument repair service. He has been playing trumpet and cornet for almost 50 years and during the last 20 years has taught privately, in a primary school and with youth bands.
In January 2006 John and an experienced school teacher, Gillian Whitla, formed the Dundonald Community Concert Band for the purpose of giving players of all ages and abilities the opportunity to enjoy music together in a relaxed and fun environment. The growth and success of this group which John also trained and conducted from formation until August 2011 has been exciting.
John was contracted as a tutor and technical advisor to Tom Hanks’ Hollywood Production Company for the film ‘City of Ember’ – building instruments with Paul Marshall of bingbangbong.com, providing specialist instrumental services on set and coaching child actors.
Rebecca Adams, BA Hons.
John's youngest daughter Rebecca (Beki) started studying piano when she was 4 years old and has been playing cornet and trumpet in bands since she was seven. She studied trumpet and theory of music through her ABRSM grades and in school and now teaches theory to young students one evening each week. During her teenage years Beki spent many hours helping and learning brass instrument repairs in her father's workshop. Being a founder member and librarian of Dundonald Community Concert Band she developed an interest in woodwind instruments.
After graduating from Queen's University Belfast with a degree in Theology and English Rebecca decided to use some skills acquired in her lifetime hobby of jewellry making and studied woodwind musical instrument repair (flute, all single & double reed instruments and saxophones) to advanced standard at The Malden School of Musical Instrument Repair in Wales. She then joined her father in business partnership. Her perfectionism, very precise practical skills and continued studies in book-keeping and Sage computer accountancy have made her a very real asset to Woodstock Brass & Woodwind.
